God Hates Jobs

I am a huge fan of religious doubt as I feel that the more you doubt, the more you question, and the more you question the closer you will be to the truth. Now that I've gotten the semiserious and pseudodeep intermingling thoughts hidden in the far recesses of my mind out into the open, I would like to present to you a video my professor recently emailed to the class.

The course is entitled "The Devil's Pact in Literature, Music and Film".

"...Being a smug bastard with this particular advantage..." Classic. I never really liked the story of Job, or I guess I've always sort of questioned how it fell in line with the other teachings of the bible. I understand the message, but it just doesn't seem that the God who so loved the world that he gave his only son in sacrifice (for us Christians) would destroy everything the most faithful man on Earth had to prove a point to the Devil. Especially since if we believe he is omnipotent, then it doesn't make sense that he would prove anything to anyone cause he sort of knows.

I love that video, though.

the interpretation that I've so often heard of this story is the one stated at the end of the video. Regardless of how bad we have it we are still to fear/love/think often about god. It is a story that tries to explain why bad things can happen in the world and how we are to deal with them.

However, I think we need a new interpretation for our time and age since many people are driven away from Christianity simply from hearing about poor Job.

(i feel that people who don't know me and read this will get the wrong idea hehe)

I always saw this tale as explaining "bad things can happen to good people and good things can happen to bad people."

Anyway, it's often quoted in those times where good, God-fearing people go through rough times. It's sort of to say your faith in God doesn't exempt you from the tribulations of the Earth.

Or something like that. It's late :(

Judging from the comments above I have to admit that I am less literate with the bible than you. But, I have heard of Job. I thought this was an entertaining rendition of the story. :)
